What Is a Filler Dissolving Injection?

A filler dissolving injection uses hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid (HA), to dissolve or adjust HA fillers. The treatment plan is determined after assessing the filler type, amount, location, injection history, and current tissue condition.

How Does Hyaluronidase Work?

Hyaluronidase breaks down hyaluronic acid within the treated tissue. The extent and speed of dissolution may vary depending on the filler formulation, amount injected, time since treatment, and individual response.

Which Fillers Can Be Dissolved?

Hyaluronidase is used specifically for hyaluronic acid fillers. Fillers made from other materials, including calcium hydroxylapatite, poly-L-lactic acid, or permanent substances, cannot be dissolved with hyaluronidase and may require a different management approach.

When May Filler Dissolving Be Considered?

Treatment may be considered for excessive volume, asymmetry, unwanted filler placement, changes in shape over time, or preparation for a new filler treatment. Medical assessment is required to determine whether partial adjustment or more extensive dissolution is appropriate.

Why Is a Personalized Treatment Plan Important?

Filler dissolution requires careful consideration of facial anatomy, the amount and location of remaining filler, and the desired degree of correction. More than one session may be required, and complete removal cannot always be guaranteed.

Treatment of Fillers Injected at Other Clinics

Hyaluronic acid fillers placed at another clinic may also be assessed for dissolution. Providing the product name, injection date, amount, and treatment area can help with treatment planning when this information is available.

FAQ

01

What is a filler dissolving injection?

It is a treatment that uses hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid, to partially or more extensively dissolve an HA filler when medically appropriate.

02

Can all types of fillers be dissolved?

No. Hyaluronidase works on hyaluronic acid fillers. Fillers made from other materials cannot be dissolved using this enzyme and may require a different management approach.

03

Can all of the filler be dissolved in one treatment?

Not always. The response varies according to the filler formulation, amount, location, and time since injection. Additional treatment sessions may be required.

04

Can fillers injected at another clinic be dissolved?

Hyaluronic acid fillers injected at another clinic may be assessed for dissolution. Information about the product, injection date, amount, and treatment area should be provided when available.

05

Can I receive filler again after dissolving it?

Retreatment may be considered after the tissue has been reassessed and sufficient time has passed for swelling and the effects of hyaluronidase to settle. The appropriate timing varies by individual.

06

What is Liquid Hirax Inj.?

Liquid Hirax Inj. is a ready-to-use hyaluronidase injection. Whether it is appropriate should be determined after reviewing the treatment area, filler history, and potential allergy risk.

Precautions

Inform your medical provider of the filler product, amount, treatment date, and injection area whenever this information is available.
Tell your medical provider about any previous allergy or adverse reaction to hyaluronidase, bee or wasp stings, injectable medications, or other treatments.
Temporary swelling, redness, bruising, tenderness, itching, or discomfort may occur at the injection site.
Hyaluronidase may also affect naturally occurring hyaluronic acid in the treated tissue, which can temporarily alter volume or skin appearance.
Avoid pressing, rubbing, or massaging the treated area unless specifically instructed by your medical provider.
Avoid alcohol, smoking, saunas, steam rooms, hot baths, and strenuous exercise for approximately 2–3 days whenever possible.
Seek immediate medical attention if generalized hives, facial or throat swelling, breathing difficulty, dizziness, faintness, or other signs of a severe allergic reaction occur.
Contact your medical provider immediately if increasing pain, marked skin discoloration, blanching, vision changes, severe swelling, or other unusual symptoms develop.
