PicoSure® Toning
"Precise Pigment Treatment for Clearer, More Even-Looking Skin"
A personalized pigmentation program using 755 nm picosecond laser energy to improve the appearance of melasma, freckles, sun spots, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and uneven skin tone.
What Is PicoSure® Toning?
PicoSure® is a 755 nm alexandrite picosecond laser platform developed by Cynosure. A picosecond is one trillionth of a second, allowing laser energy to be delivered in extremely short pulses to target pigment with a predominantly photoacoustic effect.
How Does PicoSure® Toning Work?
The laser delivers short pulses of energy that fragment melanin into smaller particles. These particles are gradually cleared through the body’s natural processes, helping improve uneven pigmentation while limiting unnecessary thermal exposure to surrounding tissue.
What Pigmentation Concerns Can It Address?
PicoSure® Toning may be used for selected cases of melasma, freckles, sun spots, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and uneven skin tone. The appropriate settings and treatment interval depend on pigment type, depth, skin tone, and sensitivity.
What Is PicoSure® Dual Toning?
PicoSure® Dual Toning combines complementary laser approaches according to the patient’s pigmentation pattern and skin condition. It is designed to address a broader range of pigment and tone concerns than a single treatment approach alone.
What Is the PicoSure® Zoom Pass?
The Zoom Pass delivers focused treatment to selected areas of more visible or localized pigmentation. It may be added when individual spots require more targeted energy than full-face toning.
What Is Laser Genesis Toning?
Laser Genesis Toning uses long-pulsed 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser energy to provide controlled dermal heating. It may support improvements in diffuse redness, uneven tone, skin texture, and overall skin quality and may be incorporated into a combination program when appropriate.
Why Is a Pigment Assessment Important?
Melasma, freckles, lentigines, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation have different causes and treatment responses. Careful assessment of pigment depth, distribution, skin type, and potential triggers is essential when selecting a safe and appropriate laser protocol.

FAQ
What types of pigmentation can PicoSure® Toning treat?
PicoSure® Toning may be used for selected cases of melasma, freckles, sun spots, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and uneven skin tone. The treatment plan varies according to pigment type, depth, and individual skin characteristics.
When will I notice results?
Some patients notice gradual improvement in overall skin tone within one to two weeks. More visible pigment changes often require several sessions, while melasma generally requires ongoing treatment, sun protection, and maintenance because recurrence is possible.
How many treatments are recommended?
The recommended number depends on the type, depth, and severity of pigmentation. A series of approximately five to ten sessions at intervals of two to four weeks may be recommended.
How is PicoSure® Dual Toning different from standard PicoSure® Toning?
Standard PicoSure® Toning primarily targets overall pigmentation and uneven skin tone. Dual Toning combines complementary laser approaches to address a wider range of pigment and skin-tone concerns according to individual skin condition.
When is the PicoSure® Zoom Pass recommended?
The Zoom Pass may be added for localized, clearly defined, or more visible pigmented lesions that require focused treatment. Suitability depends on the type and depth of the lesion.
Can I apply makeup after treatment?
Gentle cleansing and light makeup are generally possible on the same day when the skin is comfortable. Avoid irritating or highly active skincare products for approximately two to three days or as directed by your medical provider.
